The Bro Marketing Myth: Learn the 7 principles to ditch the hype and hustle and align your message.

DIY Design Basics for Canva & Google Docs

In today’s fast-paced world, presenting your message visually is just as important as the message itself. Why? People are busy and don't take time to read - UNLESS something grabs their attention first.

I want to help you create graphics that stand out without spending hours figuring out how to do that.

Join me on Tuesday, November 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain time for the live workshop. Check your local time here

A replay will be available, too!

Creating simple and powerful visuals can say so much more.

*This workshop is designed for people who use Canva and Google Docs fairly regularly and want to dive deeper.

If you don't know your way around Google Docs or Canva, this workshop is likely not a good fit. I will focus on elevating your design skills. This workshop will not cover tutorials for basic functionality for Canva or Google Docs.

You will need access to Canva Pro to access all of the features I will be using.

There is a reason why the above image indicates why you will read the largest font first.

It's the visual hierarchy. It is a very intentional design that leads the eye to what to focus on first.

Visual Hierarchy is one of the design principles you will learn in the workshop.

Let's try another example:

If you were to see this on Instagram, which is easier to read? Which one do you want to click on to see the next image in the post?

The above example is a social media post I created years ago 🤨. The one on the right applies the five design principles I will teach you in the workshop.

The one on the right is much faster to create, saving you hours every month when creating visuals for your content.

This highlights how simple changes can engage viewers and make them want to connect with you and your message.

Which slide is more engaging and interesting? Which one makes you more interested in the content?

You don't need to be a professional designer to easily and quickly create polished graphics for your content.

People won’t always read every word in your images but will pay closer attention when your design is simple and intentional.

Displaying your message clearly and effectively is essential to making a lasting impact.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to cut through the online noise with simple, focused visuals that grab attention and communicate your message powerfully.
  • The five core principles of visual communication so your message gets noticed through simple design changes.
  • Top three things to avoid so you don't overwhelm your audience.
  • Simple design "hacks" using Canva and Google Docs.
  • Top tips for your social media posts, handouts and workbooks for your programs, slide presentations, and Google Docs

The workbook for the class includes:

  1. My top 10 design tips and tricks for Canva
  2. My top 10 design tips and tricks for Google Docs
  3. Three steps to make awesome slides for any presentation
  4. My favorite resources to make designs easier include finding color palettes to use, where to find free fonts, my favorite people to follow who share valuable design resources, and more.

Plus, you will receive plug-n-play templates to customize for your own business and brand for a:

  1. Google Doc Workbook (using Canva images)
  2. Presentation Slides (Canva)
  3. Instagram Templates (Canva) (3 versions for a post, carousel post, reel, and story)
  4. Workbook Cover and Interior Pages (Canva)

The templates are yours to copy and adjust however you would like!

You’ll leave with practical, easy-to-implement tips that will help you create polished, attention-grabbing graphics that get your message across and make your business stand out.

What makes me qualified to teach this workshop?

Drawing on over 20 years of desktop publishing and graphic design experience, plus a master’s degree in professional communication, I have created thousands of graphics for myself and my clients.

Are there better designers out there? Absolutely. And if you don't want to DIY your graphics, you should absolutely hire them. 😊

This is for you if you want to DIY your graphics but don't want to have it be an obvious DIY job. (you know what I mean)

P.S. If you can't attend live, you'll get access to the replays within 48 hours.
